What we are looking for

You’ll be part of a small, focused team that builds out the future of our company. As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you’ll be running and improving our existing managed services operation, and you’ll serve a critical role as we build out our next-generation SaaS offering.

  • Engage with Cloud Service Operations in support of ITIL incident, Change, and Problem Management
  • Align with SmashFly’s Engineering Product Owner to collaborate on future designs, drive product improvement, and focus thinking around operational excellence
  • Liaison with Infrastructure leaders VMware, Storage, and Network domains to drive operations improvements for all SmashFly’s Product
  • Document SmashFly’s Platform operations and provide run books to the On-call team
  • Support system patching and security vulnerability remediation projects where needed
  • Monitor system uptime, and restore systems to operational levels
  • Provide system uptime and availability reporting
  • Monitor environment utilization levels, assist with performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Implement log aggregation, and incident management systems. 
  • Ensure that these systems are operational and reporting on the health of the business
  • Maintain consistency across all Dev to Production instances.  Where needed, the Cloud Operations Engineer will work with QA and Engineering to ensure system equivalency across the environments
  • Liaison with Release Engineer to automate the release process
  • Work on projects as directed by the Cloud Operations Director

The skills you should have

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience with Virtualization technologies (VMware preferred)
  • Cross-functional infrastructure experience with Systems, Storage and Networking
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft technology stack (Windows Server, IIS, MS SQL, .NET runtime) as it applies to multi-tier application model
  • Knowledge of the operating models for private cloud, IaaS, SaaS and PaaS technologies
  • Proven experience with automation and scripting languages (PowerShell, Perl, Chef, Puppet, etc).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Previous infrastructure operations experience
  • Previous infrastructure engineering experience
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and problem solving skills
