The job you’ll be doing at SmashFly:

The System/Cloud Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation and configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, network, storage, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Windows, Linux, Networking and Storage systems that support corporate, development and production infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include System Administration, engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance, research and development to ensure continual innovation.

System Administration, Engineering and Provisioning

  • Engineering of Infrastructure solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, network gear, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Install and configure systems which support Company’s corporate, engineering, production and DR environments.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with other team members on network optimization.
  • Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies and external vendors when necessary.
  • Create detailed Change Management documentation and implements well-thought-out changes to production systems. Lead implementation of systems into production
  • Audit and maintain security levels consistent with the Security Policies. This may include developing and implementing policies, performing intrusion testing, identifying & correcting security vulnerabilities and implement security related software.
  • Perform code deployments from Staging to production.
  • Engage in cross-team work between customer support, technical support, IT and engineering.
  • Interact with the development teams and business stakeholders to support new projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to all staff.
  • Provide remote support for several remote locations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Maintenance

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports Company’s infrastructure and applications per project or operational needs.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required. 
  • Configure CPU, memory, disk partitions. OS and application parameters as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

The skills you should have 

  • BA or BS degree from a 4-year college or university
  • 7+ years' experience, including 4+ years in mission-critical 24x7 environments
  • Working knowledge of vMWare vSphere is essential
  • Experience working with Windows-based application environments is required
  • Familiarity with .NET web technologies, MS SQL Server, IIS, Web services and Windows Services
  • Experience working with a multi-site Windows AD environment, including replication and integrated DNS
  • Strong Linux experience, working knowledge of configuration management tools, Elasticsearch and RabbitMQ products is a plus.
  • Strong networking skills, understanding of routing concepts, switching, firewalls, load balancers, LAN, WAN and VPN topologies
  • Working knowledge of F5 BIG-IP load balancers
  • Working knowledge of SPLUNK
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts, working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and AWS, prior experience with hybrid environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with internet email, SMTP, FTP, SFTP and HTTP protocols
  • Working knowledge of HP Blade Center hardware, knowledge of HP MSA and 3PAR storage subsystems
  • Experience with setting up and administering infrastructure and application monitoring systems
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of DevOps concepts, scripting and automation tools
  • Familiarity with source control tools and usage concepts (TFS, Git)
  • Solid understanding of Information Security concepts as they apply to production environments, data confidentiality and change control
  • Production Support experience on upgrades and installations
  • Experience working in mission-critical 24x7 environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
  • A strong sense of customer service, attention to detail and desire for organization
  • An analytical, creative, open-minded and innovative approach to solving problems
  • An easy-going attitude and strong sense of humor
